Review Your Work

Do you ever stop and review how far you’ve come?

Recently, I’ve updated a few old issues of Book Rapper for a client. When I say old, they were done 3-4 years ago. Seems like forever! Basically, I was converting the read rap or the pdf into a set of slides, a video recording and an audio recording.

The interesting thing is that it forced me to re-visit some of the content I’ve created in the past. And, it was interesting to observe my response.

The Three Laws of Performance

And, this just happens to be the first law of performance from [easyazon_link asin=”111804312X” locale=”US” new_window=”default” nofollow=”default” tag=”designprobe-20″]The Three Laws of Performance: Rewriting the Future of Your Organization and Your Life[/easyazon_link] by Steve Zaffron and Dave Logan – which was the subject of the new client content I created. The slides are below…

And, you can read a two-minute book summary here. It’s a great book and if you’re ever up for a breakthrough or want to transform some part of your life or your business, then this is the book that I highly recommend.

The first law of performance is to ask: How is this occurring to you? This is the access point to transforming how you relate to the situation.

My Review

So, how does this old piece of work occur to me today?

To be honest I’m mostly very satisfied with it. And, when I say mostly, I’m 90% happy. I think it’s partly the designers curse, there’s always things I’d do differently! For instance, I’d upgrade the graphics and essentially, I’m proud of what I’ve created. I’m even willing to admit I said to myself that ‘Hey, that’s pretty good!’

Review Your Performance

My point is this… Firstly, I think it’s important to review your work. How else are we going to learn? Secondly, when I do review my work, I like to think I’m fair and honest about it. Sometimes it’s just plain crap, sometimes it’s ordinary, sometimes it’s good and sometimes I’m really chuffed at how good my work is sometimes. And, yes, I’m willing to admit that in public.

My question for you is… How does your past work occur to you?

Are you able to be with a range of emotions here? The good, the bad and the downright embarrassing?

My challenge for you is to review some of your previous work and notice your response to it. How far have you come? Leave a comment below and let us know your response…
