Interview with Eric Knight – Transcript

My name is Eric Knight. I’m the author of Reframe – how to solve the world’s trickiest problems. It’s been described as a Freakonomics of politics, the book about how do we make big decisions in a world with short attention spans.

In my book, I go through a bunch of stories over the last decade, our trickiest problems from the bursting of the Dotcom bubble in the late 90s, to September 11, the war on terror to immigration that fell out of that, then climate change in the mid-2000s and beyond. And where I get to at the end of the book is not Eric knights answers to our problems. It’s the how-to guide – the processes – we need to go through in our businesses, in our organizations and in our lives, to solve our tricky problems.

The case I make is essentially evolutionary biology applied to the world of ideas, that through variation and selection we adopt and we adapt the best answers that exist out there.

The book is going fantastically well. It’s going out into the UK, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Next month, I’m giving TED talks around the place and speaking to local chambers of commerce, businesses, and organizations.

And my hope for the book is that in some small way, it helps each of us solve the problems that we face on a day-to-day basis, and makes a very big and messy world. Slightly more understandable. Thank you.
